  1.1 Recording devices 
      There are basically 6 main types of recording device all have there prosand cons.
      They are

      a.) Cassette audio recorder (Tape)
      b.) Minidisc recorder
      c.) Hi MD recorder
      d.) DAT recorder
      e.) HDD recorder
      f.) MP3 recorder (HDD or Card)

      1.1.1 Cassette audio recorder
            Yes the old style portable recorder...not so common anymore but still in use
            Personally I have never used one so cannot say anything about it.
